PRACTICAL LIVING We are still discussing transformation – one of the keys to personal evolution, reducing suffering and enhancing a wonderful life. Here, Patañjali discusses how change has a logical sequence. Our actions lead us to certain results, which are based on the previous actions. Every step of our lives leads us to a next one. If the results we are currently getting are not looking so good, then are there actions we can change or refine to get a different result?
On the other hand, Steve Jobs in his commencement speech at Stanford in 2005, talks about ‘connecting the dots’ – the idea that when we look back at our lives, we can connect dots of why things happened the way they did and why we made the decisions we did. He said “You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma…”. His point is that often we do not know why we are choosing to do something because it may not make logical sense to us or others. However, if we are able to listen to and have the courage to go with that gut feeling, it may lead us to later understand the bigger reason behind that choice. Actions determine the sequence of our life’s events.
IN THE YOGA WORLD TKV Desikachar said “A river following a valley can be diverted through a tunnel. The intelligence to grasp this possibility is what produces the different patterns of change.” By understanding the nature of transformation, we are able to do our part in the process. By understanding when our inner seeds need water, sunlight or weeding, we can help our essence to blossom and evolve.
