GRATITUDE    I have been blessed in so many ways, and this project is a way to express my gratitude to the magnificent people, things and opportunities I have received. One of the gifts I am most grateful for is coming in contact with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, considered to be the foundational book to the study of Yoga. This text is a comprehensive description of how the mind works, the causes for suffering, the solutions to decrease suffering and enhance inner peace, and a beautiful description of the journey towards ‘cleaning’ the mind so that we can gradually experience our inner light.

LINEAGE    Fortunately, I encountered a teacher, our lovely Robert Birnberg, who for the past 7 years has been transmitting these teachings in a practical and loving manner, helping me make constructive changes and transform my life. From his teachings and several ongoing trips to India to study the Yoga Sutras at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, I will present one sutra per week filtered through my own experiences. In addition, every month, I will be lecturing about the 4 sutras that I have presented on the blog in a venue in Chicago.

RELATIONSHIPS    This project is linked to the idea, presented by TKV Desikachar (son of T. Krishnamacharya), that you know Yoga is working for you, if your relationships are getting better. In other words, our relationships reflect our state of mind. With this powerful message in mind, each weekly sutra will be linked to one meaningful relationship that this sutra brings up for me.

THE GRAND FINALE    Each sutra will be represented by the picture of one person who has touched my life. This picture will be printed on a CD (with all of the 195 sutras in it) and we will begin to create a spiral of CDs, which will become a huge art piece. 195 weeks later (whenever that is), we will have a celebration of the completion, raising money to a good cause (the good cause we support will come to me with time – I need some viveka – clarity and discernment on this).

INTERACTION    Since the underlying theme of the project is RELATIONSHIPS, I super encourage you to participate and post your experiences with the information. Your experiences can only enhance others’ understanding of the sutra. My only request is that we make this a kind and constructive interaction 🙂
